Is there anybody who can assist me in developing a physical agility test for Paramedics? Our department currently uses the On Target Firefighter Combat Challenge with some modifications for our firefighter entrance physical agility test. We also hire paramedics with no firefighting experience for our EMS service. Has your department developed a physical agility test for Paramedics and if so, what does it consist of?

Dear Sir,
We don't have a physical test in my company but I wish they did. There are several people that can't (or refuse) to do some things that I think are required for the job. If I were to make a test it would have several things in it such as: 1)climbing stairs with your equipment (airway bag, monitor, & drug bag) 2) carrying pts. up and down stairs in a stair-chair and a stretcher. 3)Opperation of the stretcher and setting up your basic ALS equip. (monitor, saline lock, IV preps ect...) <hand eye coordination> 4)There should be a lifting requirement of atleast 150lbs. 5)operating under extreme conditions (such as too much noise, confined spaces, not much light).
Just think of what we do everyday and the physical stresses that we encounter. I'm sure that you can come up with a very good test. I hope maybe I gave you some ideas..... BJ (ff/paramedic)
