It never fails when at an MVA of a lighter caliber, you initially find everyone walking around, and after quickly questioning everyone momentarilly to find the everso slightest of injuries in someone, you call off the ambulance. BIG NO NO. I did it once before, and thought I learned my lesson. I did it again today - Not thinking, but yet well aware of how people are once the start getting some attention, I called off the responding ambulance, due to their question of continuing, understanding that the MVA was on a minor scale. Once our first responder unit arrived with three on board, moments later a few more arrived, and then FD personel. Two people in each mini van, one rear ended the other around 45 MPH. The airbag in the rear striking vehicle deployed on the driver side, which I should have known automatically that there may be some neck injuries; no bags in the forward vehicle were deployed, yet I neglected to recall the whiplash injury. We ended up repaging for our ambulance, then for a second one. One after another.... once each one began to get a little attention, it was "OH, yeah, my neck is bothering me a little".... "Yeah, I have a little stiffness in my back".... and I don't doubt it... in a rear end collision, I do not doubt that the occupants will have some sort of pain in the neck, head or back.... its just one of those... THINK about it... dont forget about this or that.... stupid mistake.... but I guess it happens.... I have now just made a rule for MYSELF.... I am not personally going to be liable for that call. Send'em anyway... and I should have done that the last time I did that.... what are some of YOUR SOP's or basic guidelines for that sort of scenario?
