Maintaining skills

I've come across a dilema. I'll receive my state EMT-B certification about 6 months before my department will allow me to ride as a 3rd on the medic. Any advice on how to keep up my skills during that period?

Is it your age that prevents you from riding? I'd try to get some ED time if possible.

Yes, it is my age that hinders me. The drawback to being enrolled in the most convenient EMT-B class is that it finishes before I can ride. I will look into volunteering in the ED, although I do not know if they'd let me use my skills.
