I am currently looking to submit a proposal to the my city government concerning a pay differential for EMTP. The city currently only pays a differential for EMTB. This is because the department currently only provides BLS response. Several members are currently interested in increasing are level of service and would like to know what a fair pay differential is. An EMTB currently recieves a 3% differential increase over some with equal service time but not licensed as an EMTB. The only members that are not EMTB are members with more than 10 years of service.
An input will be greatly appreciated.

In my department EMT-B's make an extra $2/hr only when on the ambulance. EMT-P's make 5% above 1st grade FF if they are just a FF. Officers that are also EMT-P's make 5% above their grade.

My department is a BLS first-response, non-transport agency. The only difference my paramedic certification makes is a couple of education points for career development. If, in the future, we should go to an ALS transport status, I would expect that to change (or the certification's gonna go "poof"...)

In my area the average pay increase is $1.00 to $3.00 more per hour from Basic to Paramedic depending on company. Good luck with your proposal!

In Virginia, we have a classification called Cardiac Technician, which, for the most part, is equivalent to EMT-Paramedic in skills.
