Fireman2001, it all depends on how good you want to be. If you desire to be a good Fire/EMS person, then I find it is easier. If you really aren't interested and don't care then it tends to be harder. Study, study, study. Ask questions, there is never a stupid question. Don't be afraid to ask questions, your superiors won't think less of you if you ask questions to clarify your role.
Stay safe,
Mark

I would have to agree with Mark. Your interest makes all the difference. There is a large quantity of information to be learned in a short period of time with EMT training. Much of the information can be applied directly to physical performance of duties as an EMT. If you are not already associated with an agency that provides EMS, get associated. Volunteer or paid, get busy doing something. Your peers in an EMS organization have accomplished what you are attempting to accomplish and can be a great resource. If you ever have any specific questions, feel free to email me. If I don't have the right answer, I should at least be able to point you in the right direction.
Good luck!

Welcome Aboard...EMS is semi-hard...It all depends on you..as stated in above posts..I just started riding with my local EMS Squad in December as a Cadet member and I love it, I'm going for my EMT this summer..At First I was nervous but that fear decreases as you start riding more often...So far I think its pretty easy..Also stated..DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS!! I was a little leary to ask questions at first when I was riding with Medics one day..but They seen i was having a little trouble with something and I told them..sorry I'm New could you help me out with this..and they said Sure no problem..They told me...Its better to ask questions than getting stuck in an emergency situation and come back 10 minutes later and still cant find something in the rig or not know how to use a piece of equipment etc...I've been riding for a couple months now and I still ask questions, In EMS your pretty much always learning new things..So all in all..yea its pretty easy..Just gotta put your mind to it..and You'll be set...

I am finding that it is a LOT of information to ingest in a relatively short class time, but it is very rewarding. I don't think you will regret going into EMS. Study and Ask are two of the things I would just have to repeat from the previous posts. I have found that when I ask, they(other EMT's) are ready to answer or at least find the answer. If you don't ask, you might end up risking someone's life, maybe your own. Go for it! I must admit, though, that most of the people I work with are a bit twisted.

Yea..hehe thats another thing I found out, People on a volunteer FIrst aid squad..Are a little tweaked upstairs...Well at least in my squad they are lol...But they all are a fun bunch of people..and we get the job done quickly, efficiently, and professionally... Alot of the hospitals and paramedics compliment us on how quickly we work..sorry I just had to reply again since I seen that reponse on how the people emtwannabe works with are a little twisted...reminded me of my squad lolol http://www.firehouse.com/forums/biggrin.gif
