I'm interested in seeing how many fire departments (vol or paid)have EMS captains. If so do you have job descriptions of these. We are a small department that runs only about 45 EMS and 6 fire per month. 2 paid people (Chief and Paramedic).

My department has a Rescue Capt. and 2 Rescue Lt's. They are in charge of the Rescue Squad which is made up of medically trained members of the 5 fire companies that make up the department. All of the squad members are also firefighters and usually serve in that capacity first. The Rescue officers are responsible for mantaining the EMS vehicles , 2 type 1 ambulances, a ford expedition first responder unit and a john deere gator 6x4 ATV , EMS trainings and mantaining an inventory of EMS supplies. The Rescue officers are adminstrative as far as chain of command goes , but that will change in the very near future. Our department does aprox. 1700 runs a year with 500 EMS , we are not the primary responder EMS in the district and back up a county run paid system.
