My brother died in the line of duty in April of this year doing what he loved most - beng a volunteer firefighter. Since his death his children have received funds because he died in the line of duty.

I now have a friend whose exwife was killed (murdered) and she was a paramedic in Detroit, MI. I was wondering if there are benfits set aside for the children because of her status as a paramedic.

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Was she one of the Health Link employees killed a few weeks ago? If so there has been a fund established for the family's of the two that were killed. I know a lot of departments have donated to it. They should be all set for awhile.

I just sent an email, but then I reread your post and it may not be the same person. I am not sure if Health Link was her employeer but the death occurred just last week. The funeral was Friday afternoon. She was killed with a hunting knife in the Kmart parking lot along with a fellow employee who had followed her to see that she was ok when the ex-boyfriend followed her.

Let me know if you think this is the same one please.

I am sorry about the loss of your friend and you! As for your question...I do not know of any moneys that are set aside if you were not killed while on duty. That is, from what I understand, where the moneys come from and why the state gives the money. Hope this helps.

First off, sorry for your loss.

In the NYPD realm, they have 10-13 benefit 'gatherings'. Someone rents a room, hall, club, whatever, and have a 'nite-out'. Music, dancing, food, drink, whatever.

A signal 10-13 is a signal / radio code for officer needs immediate assistance. Like if a cop is in a gun fight, a cop is shot, down, you get the drift. FDNY-EMS does a similar thing as well.

FDNY firefighters do anything from t-shirts and hat sales, to similar dinner / nite's out events.

Jessica,

That would be the one. Her and her partner were both killed. Let me know if I can help in anyway. ChrisS116@yahoo.com
