What exactly is a CRT and paramedic assistant? WHat are the qualifications to take these classes? Also are there any other specialty title/training similar to CRT?

We used to have CRT's or Cardiac Rescue Technicians in Delaware until the Board of Medical Practice phased them out in favor of all Paramedic ALS systems.
CRT's could perform many of the skills of a paramedic,ie. IV's parenteral meds, SL meds, ET intubation, their approved medications were less than a paramedics and they could not admisiter narcotics. only the paramedic could do that. CRT's operated under the direct supervision of a paramedic. They were phased out in 1987 in Delaware.
In Maryland they still have CRT's and perhaps someone from that state could enlighten us as to how they operate.
Paramedic Assistant in Delaware and Pennsylvania is the name of a course that teaches EMT-B's how to assist paramedics, apply a cardiac monitor, set up IV's, blood tubes etc. Hope this helps :)
