I am attempting put together a class for EMS providers on street smarts. I am looking for either classes that are already running that I can use and/or input into what should be in this type of training program.
Some of my thoughts are:
1. Approaches to doors, cars
2. Some form of defensive tactics
3. Narcotics regognition
4. Verbal judo
Any suggestions is deeply appreciated. We are having too many of our brothers and sisters hurt every day by not knowing what to watch for and how to handle situations.

I took a class a few years ago on those very topics entitled, "Is the scene safe?" It was instructed by a group of instructors from COMTAC (www.comtac.com) and covered things like: how to escape a choke hold, how to park at a scene for an easy escape, what to do with a patient that is packing a gun etc.
It was an awesome class, held over two weekends I think, and I learend a lot there. If you have any questions, drop me an email. I do not work for the company.

You can also get a book from the Jems bookstore called "When Violence Erupts", A survival guide for emergency responders. It was written in 1990, but is still a good resource for what you are listing. It also shows you how to approach a car from the rear to insure that you know the trunk is closed and by the time you reach the driver you know what is in the vehicle. I've found it to be very helpful.

Hey, afternoon folks. Another good resource for you to check out would be your municpalities police dept. They should be able to help steer you in the right direction of a particular class that is available. Depending on the qualifications of the individual officers they may even be able to instruct your company on the material itself.
