Went on a call yesterday that came in as a shark bite. We get down to the beach and find a man with severe abrasions that look like road rash down his left side. He also has a slight laceration along his abdomen and a small cut on his forehead. His 02 sat was down to 94.

Turns out that a few minutes before a helicopter had flown overhead and seen a large bullshark in the water and radioed (sp) the lifegaurd, who subsequently alerted everyone in the water to get out. This guy shows up about a minute after that, and gets on his board in the water.

I guess the shark decided he didn't want him around. It didn't bite him, but it did whack him a good one. He said he didn't see it coming, but he saw it going (and he was thanking God it was going). The shark hit him with its nose. Strong enough to brake three ribs.

Gotta love Florida.

That's why I live in Iowa!!! Don't have to worry about sharks, only deer horn stabbings and pouncing, badger bites, people caught in traps / snares and people falling in frozen hog and cattle lagoons.

:D

Good Lord! I think I'll stick to sharks...at least with those they usually only take one bite. (Of course..that one bite may be all it takes..but hey, pretty good odds compared to deer horn stabbings and hog lagoons!)

That's histerical. You can't make this stuff up either. I know of a Paramedic that once responded to a pig bite.

Hey, pig bites are no laughing matter, especially wild pigs!

Most of the native animals are disappearing here in Florida, like wolves and fox, panthers and bears. All in all though, we do still have some pretty serious pigs.

A lot of the people I know (including my hubby) are kinda...well...rednecks, lol. There isn't too much a redneck can hunt down here in South Florida, but hogs are on the menu. Needless to say, there's a lot of hog hunting going on. (God, this post is just begging for one liners).

Anyways, it's pretty serious business. I guess that's two things we have to watch out for here....shark bites and pig bites. ~grinz
