We just had the PEPP course this last weekend, and it was really full of great info! Makes Pediatrics somewhat easier to think through. It was taught on all three EMT levels, with something for all, and great info and skill previews for us basics who haven't gotten to advanced levels yet. What do you all think of it? Just another certification to keep up, but in a good way!

Take care

Lisa,
I had PEPP as part of my medic class. I agree, it was very good. I really liked the way they taught pediatric assessment. It jived well with what I saw the nurses doing during my clinical rotation at our local children's hospital ER. I found it much more useful than PALS.

I to have taken PEPP. I really enjoyed the class also. As it is geared toward EMS it was a much more valuable class to me than PALS as PALS is geared toward inhospital pediatric care. I hope soon that they will develop an ACLS cirriculam/class devoted to EMS. I recently refreshed ACLS and every time I take it, there is more and more IN hospital information and treatments that do not pertain to us. Nice to know yes, but I do not want it in my classes. We have had PEPP in our department from it's inception. Our Chief was involved in it's development. If anyone hasn't heard of it, it is a very good class for any level EMS provider.

I took PEPP several years ago as a requirement of the service I worked for at the time. Quite frankly I found it to be a waste of time. As did most of the other people that took it with me. We only took away a couple of facts from the clss that we didn't think of before hand. I'm sure that the "instructor" reading straight from the book didn't help any either.

If I'm not mistaken PEPP's national roll-out was in late '99. As with all course, the quality of the course is dependent upon the quality of the instructor. The text is good, the instructor corps is a mixed bag. PALS is good too. I've had PEPP and PALS, both have thier pro's and con's. If I had to pick which course I'd attend, it would be PALS due to the critical skills component.

I am just a little new to the this field could you help me out with the acronym. PEPP and PAL. I'm guessing one of the p's is pediatric but I'm lost on the rest. Is it just me or do we try to abreviate way to much in today's society. :)

Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers (PEPP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). For more information go to:

American Academy of Pediatric's "Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers" (http://www.peppsite.com/)

I liked them both. They are both full of good information. They may go over stuff you already know, but they help to break it down into an easier format for you to follow.

I have been through three different ped's cources,

PediaTricks (a program given by a local childrens hospital)
PALS
PEPP

I've found PEPP to be the best program of all. As with ACLS, PALS is taught to everyone in healthcare. Unfortunatly, the job of a Dr is not the same as that of a RN or that of a medic in the field, so they were all just general guidelines. PEPP is taught to prehospital providers who don't have blood gases and CMPs, CT scans, etc. I thought it was great.

No it wasn't a bunch of new information, its all common sense, but it was a fantastic way to bring it all together, and it was much more entertaining than PALS.
