I had a question posed to me about assult weapons. I am looking for some stats or personal experiences if the current assult weapons ban has affected the number of GSWs casualties in the Major cities of the nation. And what the numbers were like before the ban, because the law is up for review soon, did it make a diffrence?

While I didn't find a lot of specific numbers, maybe these will get you started.

Didn't get to read through all of these but you may try looking at :

Also - you may want to try posting on some weapons Message Boards.
I happen to frequent www.glocktalk.com. They have a couple of areas that are not Glock specific and the folks there are very friendly & knowledgeable.

OK, here we go.
The ban, I doubt, has had much effect. It has been illegal to own a fully automatic weapon, without federal and state government approvel since 1934. The ban only prevented the sale of "assault weapon style" or "looking" weapons. Weapons that had carrying handles, or flash suppressors. It also banned the sale of newly manufactured high capacity magazines - 12 rounds or more capacity.
My feeling is that the ban was useless and a waste of time. If one wishes to reduce the number of firearms in criminal hands, then the enforcement of current laws is the method needed to be employed, not adding additional laws that will not be enforced.
This law did not stop the sale of these magazines or weapons, only the manufacture of and sale of newly made wepons / magazines.
That being said, I have not seen a reduction in the number of shootings in the area that I have worked and where I currently work. They are still fairly rare occurences, except in the larger cities like Lawrence, Worcester, Boston, Fall River, Springfield, and other Massachusetts cities.
On that note, there was an article in teh past year in the Boston Herald that reported that due to enhanced enforcement of the laws, fewer firearms were confiscated and indeed an increase in the number of deadly weapon assaults had increased using bats, knives, and other handy weapons.
These are just the opinions and rantings of me.
