I was wondering if anyone has competed in any medical competitions??
What type of scenarios do you get??
What type of judging do they do, etc??

A year or so ago I heard of a local department who was hosting an FR (first responder) competition, but I wasn’t able to enter or attend to watch. Since then I have not heard much about them. Not sure what made me think of it, but I thought it would be interesting.

I sort of invisioned something like an auto ex. competition...

The Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads has both BLS (EMT) and ALS competitions.

The BLS competition is open to teams from the Senior Squads, Junior Squads, and the Ladies Auxiliary. (ALS is Senior only)

Competitions are held at the District & State level and in order to be eligible to compete @ State, you must have competed at least once at the district level that year.

I have not competed myself nor have I judged a competition so I cannot speak as to the content of the scenarios given, however I'm sure if you contact the VAVRS office, they will be happy to provide you with information on starting your own program.

FYI they also compete in EVOC, Rescue, Extrication - Modular Ambulance(hand tools), Extrication - Rescue Truck ("Unlimited"), and Rescue Diver as well.
