Well, I decided since EMT class is equivalent to 8 college credits at my college, and because I am looking forward to a career in either police or fire.

Well, jeez!! I wasnt expecting this much work!!! I have a larger work load in this one class than I do in most of my college courses!! I dont know mind at all, and I love that I'm learning so much, but its been such a long time since I took a basic class like this. I'm used to my FF classes up at county that are 2 hours long, if that!!

Oh, and to make the situation alittle worse, there this kid that I want to strangle!!! Its been brought up by the instructors that he's a "repeat offender" , one of those special cases that had to come back to EMT for a second round. :D

Wish me luck!!!!!

Good Luck and as you move higher up the chain to Intermediate and then medic the workload increases 10 fold for Intermediate and hundredfold for medic.

See, I don't get it. Maybe its because I ran with the EMS crowd for about a year before i took my EMT class, but I found it to be incredably easy. Then when I took intermediate, I think I studied maybe once. I passed both classes and NR exams with more than a 90.

Is paramedic really that much harder?

I'll let you know. I should be starting my class this fall. Current class is talking about the DOTs being 2 inches thick and research papers due every two weeks. Heck, I don't know. I enjoyed EMT-I class, I thought it was easy, but time constrained.

Well, I would certainly hope that if you ran with a corp. for over a year, EMT school would prove to be alittle easier!!

My department is a certified EMS agency, but we stopped responding to medical calls about 5 years ago. I have never treated anything more serious than a cut on my little brothers hand, and have only assisted in immobilizing patients at MVA scenes. I hope that taking the EMT and learning these skills will not only open up my horizons for potention paid FF positions, but also help me in my everyday duty as a firefighter.

Figured I'd update as well. One month into class and we have drug quizes every night and research papers due every thursday. Along with a massively huge research paper due on Aug 4. Small papers have to be at least 3 pages will the main one has to be at least 10 I think. Also the DOTs are about 2 inches thick. Thankfully they're not all due at the same time.

So far it's been pretty easy since I work a 24 hour shift and not a 12 hour truck anymore.

One month down and 5 more to go.

Yeah..6 month medic class sounds like it would kill me...I just finished up with ride time and awaiting test date..After a year of class and 6 months of clinical/field time. I have "risen through the ranks" FR, EMT-B, EMT-I, plus working as a tech in the local ER, and at times medic class was overwhelming to me...Plus the nice expense of around $800 for 1st semesters books...

Class is twice a week with class starting at either 4pm or 5:30pm and lasting till at least 10pm. Total for both schmesters (sorry can't spell right now) is ambulance hours-288, hospital time-272, and ER time-24. Class room time totals to something larger then I can count to.

Can't argue with stats. The college is rated #1 in Texas for percentage of students passing any of the NR tests and it's rated #1 for something else.

I almost took my medic class there several years ago. Instead, the company I used to work for was going to put a class on but I didn't get to attend either one. Now I kick myself in the butt for not doing it back then. Oh, well...

Not to knock your school, but I'm failing to see how writing research papers prepares students to pass the NREMT-P or enhances learning psychomotor skills. Maybe you could fill me in?

I've been waiting 2½ months for someone to fill me in on how the papers make us smarter for the NR exam.
