As we have been recently hit with a massive heat wave in my area, I have been left wondering if any services out there have nice airy uniforms designed for the summer. My services has been nice enough to supply us with ordaniry T-shirts for the summer only problem is the are dark blue, so on those bright sunny days they are horrible.
Does anyone know of company or supplier that has shirts that aren't so heavy as a normal uniform shirt?
Thanks

Nope sorry... We are not allowed to wear t-shirts on calls because "it is not professional" according to the chief. We are also not allowed to wear shorts like some departments are. We wear dark navy or black year round.

For Squad calls and anytime we are out in view of the public we are required to be in proper uniform. That means from May thru September we wear golf shirts and navy blue pants. From October thru April it's buttondown shirts with badges and navy blue pants. I personaly feel the golf shirts are hotter than the buttondowns!

You might want to check with the Phoenix FD. I know they have some hot-weather uniforms, but don't know who they're supplier is.

We wear the same uniforms year around also. Navy Blue....Wonderful on those Hot/Sunny Days. We're given the option of Short Sleeves or even the T-Shirt or Polo Shirt in the Summer and Sweatshirts in Winter But Shorts....Haaaa Not during my Career and those High Steel Toe Boots in Summer....Uggg I'll save you the Thought on that. Because I'm in the Station on perminant Night Work I'll make the Change Over to jogging Shorts and Sneakers after 10pm - I work alone in a combi department and if a run comes in I have enough time to either throw on my Bunkers or my Uniform Pants before we'll roll.
Sometimes waiting for Volunteers isn't a bad thing !!

Our summer uniforms are being allowed to wear a white short sleeve shirt under our class A as opposed to wearing a red long sleeve shirt under our class A.

Well ALL I can say is that we are all stuck with the same problem. The EMS company I use to work for there is no such thing as a t-shirt, its short sleeve dress shirts that are button down and no clip on tie during the summer but once there is one leaf that hits the ground its ties back on or tuttle necks. And I almost forgot the maroon polyester pants. talk about HOT!

Not sure of now, but as recently as 1991 the Tacoma FD (Washington State) had summer and winter uniforms. Winter uniforms were dark navy blue slacks and matching color long sleeve, heavy fabric uniform button-up shirt. Summer uniforms were the same slacks topped with a light blue, short sleeve, lighter fabric button up shirt. They swapped back and forth on the same day that clocks were shifted forward or backward for daylight saving time.

big cities shorts and maybe a polo can be ok...but i see it as unprofessional..
and a tee shirt should only be worn during pt and while on the engine and in bunker pants and boots...
class A and polos with dress pants the rest...
my opinion only
