I have been having trouble with these companies when my patients set off their buttons and we arrive. I understand their dispatcher (or whatever they are called) has to ask if there is an emergency, BUT... when I tell them my name and that I am a paramedic do they need to continue to ask stupid questions. For instance, do they continually have to ask my name, what hospital I'm going to, can you spell that, they again ask what hospital, spell it again I can't understand you, is the pt ok, they think this is a time to carry on a conversation. The one time I actually got so ****ed because my patient was not doing so well I said "you know I really don't have time to answer all your questions right now I'm kind of busy" then reset the button. They some how got back on and began asking me questions again. I left and let them talk to themselves. I went out the door hearing "Hello... Hello"

Some medic alert companies notify the patients family of the incident. At least the hospice and clinical issued ones around here do. I'm more than happy to tell them where we are going and the condition of the patient, unless I'm busy with something else. Then I tell them to call our dispatch office for the info, and push the reset button before they can ask anything else. If you speak as calm and clear to them as you should the patient, then whats the problem? If it gets annoying, reset it.

They always called me in dispatch wanting info after the call or sometimes while we're still enroute. I can always tell it's someone from out of state because they can pronounce simple texas words correctly.:)
