I am currently precepting in the state of NJ to fulfill my requirements for reciprocity. I am running into alot of problems with my preceptor. One is that my preceptor has a habit of jumping over me when it is my turn to run a call and starts rattling off the pt assessment and interview before I even have a chance to act. There also seems to be alot of Gods gift attitude at work and both medics on the truck look at me like I am incompentant. Thing is I see both of them do things that are incorrect like pushing amioderone slowly during a code when you are supposed to rapidly bolus, another is delaying defib because the pt who just went into cardiac arrest is having agonal respirations. Another problem I am having is that neither medic is communicating what they expect and or want to see from me. I brought these points up to a supervisor over the weekend mainly because I want to air these problems before any evaluation by these preceptors gets turned into the state. Does anyone here have any suggestions on how to handle this situation? Thanks in advance.

Have you brought up these problems to your preceptors? I assume you must have. The way I see it you have two choices: 1. go with the flow, to get your cert then do things the way you know they should be done. 2. as to run with a different crew.
I had a few issues with one of my preceptors, nothing serious, so I just played along. Good thing I only had him 1 shift out of 3!!!!

Do your time. Get them to sign you off. Go do things the correct way and realize not everyone is good at what they do.

Do your best to finish up your preceptorshio and move on. Your not going to change those guys.
