Scheduling Software

I have been recently put in charge of scheduling our volunteer on call personnel. Each person submits their available shifts and then I have to fill a schedule that consists of 2 people for each of the following shifts. 6a-6p 6p-6a 8a-4p 4p-Mid.

Is there a software package that people have used that allow for an easier scheduling solution? Currently I am doing things with Excel and it takes aproximately 7 hours to complete the schedule.

My preferred solution would have a web interface for personnel to enter their availabilities and then autogenerate a skeleton schedule, allowing me to change crew members from those available to fill the shift.

If anyone has some suggestions or software packages to consider, I'd appreciate the help!

It is a good, fairly idiot proof setup. They do charge a small fee, I do not know if they do beyond New England. At least you can see the format they use.

We just use an excel spreadsheet at our squad we do 9 shifts (6pm-6am everyday and Sat/Sunday are 6am-6pm) - Its like a big calendar with the following each day:

2nd Person
Probationary

so 3 peopel can SIGN UP for the shift, others can stop down but up to 3 are SCHEDULED per day. Captain sits and puts people in, whoevrs not scheduled people write in on the board, then every week or 2 he'll type them into the pc and reprint, works fine so far.

You basically never have to fumble with the scheduling. Each member is responsible for scheduling thier own time usually 10-15 days in advance so the following months schedule can complete it-self. -- It dispalys it in calander form and is easy to use.
