Well this story happened to me mid last year (2004), i was at that time 15 yo. I was and currently still am a High School student in Australia. I was a member of the school SRC and we were selling bandanas as a fundraiser. There was this girl who walked past me n seemed to be crying not knowing what happned i just ignored her. about 30 secs later i heard a scream i looked over and she had collapsed, I had about 4 weeks earlier completed a Senior First aid course (which i am not too sure what the equivalency is over in the US. Basically we are taught how to render basic pre-hospital care until a paramedic or Ambulance officer arrives.) I immedately got another student to go an notify a teacher and have a ambulance called and teacher assistance on the scene. (teacher for crowd control and ambulance for back-up). while this was happening i assessed the situation with DRABC once i had established the pt. had a pulse and was breathing i set about looking for any trauma when i got to her left arm i noticed a incision about 4-6 cm long, by this time i had teachers on scene and a first aid kit so i placed a pressure bandage on the wound we transported the pt to the office and handed over to the paramedics.

this may seem like a little thing to u EMT-B , BLS and ALS people but that was something that i wasn't ready for and i thought i would share it with the rest of you.

SORRY FOR ANY SPELLING MISTAKES

Sounds like you did a great Job!!! Anything like that is not a little thing, even to us "old timers". It is great to have public responders that don't "choke" when it comes to those situations. Keep it up someday you'll probably be a great Medic, RN, MD whatever you choose to be.

Great Job! You did exactly what any emt-b would have done and did it as if you were an emt-b way to go!

P.s. The equalivalent (sp?) of what you said seems to be a first responder in the US
