Requirements/Overview

Lifeguard Air Ambulance, Inc. & Lifeguard Transportation Service, Inc. together operate (5) five aircraft and (100) one hundred ground vehicles in three states. Our team members consist of over 550 medical & non-medical personnel - pilots, aircraft & vehicle mechanics, EMTs, Paramedics, Respiratory Therapists, Registered Nurses, Physicians, and Administration & Billing Staff. Our Chattanooga Operation is currently seeking Full-Time Paramedics to work for our Ground Ambulance Service.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Employee is responsible for advanced medical skill level services to seriously ill or injured patients. Work involves the administration of advanced life support techniques inclusive of but not limited to, cardiac monitoring, cardiac defibrillation, intravenous therapy, administration of medications, and endotracheal intubation. Employee is expected to use sound judgment in the analysis of emergency and non-emergency situations and react calmly and quickly under those circumstances.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of, and compliance with, all Lifeguard Ambulance policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate the attitude of a Health Care Professional, to include, but not limited to, maintaining a clean appearance, demonstrating courteous, professional and ethical behavior, and demonstrating the ability to work cooperatively with other members of the EMS Healthcare System.
  • Demonstrate the skills and knowledge of an EMT-P as per the standards set forth by the United States Department of Transportation and the respective State of licensure.
  • Demonstrate a sincere desire to continually improve and upgrade the skills and knowledge of the emergency medical profession.
  • Demonstrate the ability to render competent patient care in both pre hospital and inter-facility care and transportation.
  • Demonstrate skills, knowledge, understanding of, and compliance with, all protocols for treatment and transportation of the sick and injured as per local and regional Medical Control.
  • Demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to inspect, safely operate, and maintain an emergency vehicle, including possession of a current and valid driver's license, and demonstrate knowledge and compliance with all state laws pertaining to the operation of an emergency vehicle.
  • Demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to maintain a safe and healthy workplace as per the standards set forth by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Lifeguard Ambulance, and Lifeguard Ambulance SOP's.
  • Demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to inspect, safely operate, and maintain all equipment and tools relevant to an EMT-P.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of, and compliance with, all policies and procedures for effective safe operations and communications to insure safe response.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate patient information to other members of the healthcare profession.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate information, through the proper "chain of command," to the management and other employees of Lifeguard Ambulance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and compliance with local, state, regional, and national emergency medical dispatching system operations. Demonstrate the ability to accurately and completely document information required by Lifeguard Ambulance, the local state, and local Medical Control.
  • Demonstrate the ability to accurately and completely document the required information on the Ambulance Run Ticket or the Patient Refusal of Transport form.
  • Demonstrate the ability to accurately and completely document the required information on the Daily Check Sheet and the Narcotic Check Sheet.
  • Demonstrate, by attendance and documentation, compliance with Lifeguard Ambulance requirements for continuing clinical and safety education.
  • Demonstrate attendance and participation of all required continuing clinical and safety education/meetings.
  • Demonstrate physical ability to perform all tasks required in the performance of duties as an EMT-P.
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete and show proficiency in testing conducted by Lifeguard Ambulance.
  • Demonstrate the ability to clean and maintain the cleanliness of Lifeguard Ambulance property, including, but not limited to, its vehicles, equipment, buildings, and surrounding area(s).
  • Perform tasks as assigned by Lifeguard Ambulance management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Exhibit willingness to work as a team member, be flexible and readily adapt to change; deal effectively with conflict in a professional and productive manner; lead and manage change in a professional and productive manner.
  • Perform the essential functions of the job in a manner that benefits patients and complies with business necessity without causing undue hardship; create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, interest and optimism.
  • EMT must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, maneuver, balance, and transfer from one surface to another, up to 175 pounds. This requirement is based on the need for a two-person team of EMTs to effectively and safely lift, carry, push, pull, maneuver, balance, and transfer from one surface to another a body weight of up to 250 pounds plus a stretcher weight of up to 100 pounds (total estimated weight for two-person team is 350 pounds). Motor coordination is necessary because the patient's, the EMT's, and other worker's well-being must not be jeopardized. Often the lifting must be done in spaces where use of preferred lifting techniques is difficult or not possible.
  • Current EMT - Paramedic license, along with all associated certifications necessary for licensure maintenance.
