Mich. Sheriff's Deputy Dies While Trimming Tree

TROY, Mich. --
Troy police said a 57-year-old Oakland County sheriff's deputy died Monday while he was trimming a tree in front of his home on Cambria Drive.
Troy police Lt. Michael Lyczjowski said the man was trimming the tree about 2:15 p.m. and was 15 feet above the ground when a large limb snapped. He apparently became entangled in his safety harness, which pinned his neck against the tree trunk.
"Upon arriving police, EMS, and fire emergency personnel found our victim dangling from the tree," said Lyczkowski. "He was entangled, entangled in wires that were believed to be used as a safety harness. Upon bringing him down from the tree, it was obvious he was deceased."
Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe said the deputy was a 13-year veteran of the force with a wife and two adult children.
The deputy was assigned to the Oakland Township post.
McCabe declined to release the deputy's name, saying family members still were being notified.
Lyczjowski said the county Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy.
