BOSTON --

Lightning struck and killed a man in his 30s off the coast of Orleans on Wednesday evening.

Police and fire officials confirmed that a man has died. The Cape Cod Times reported that the man was boating on Pleasant Bay in South Orleans.

A second person in the boat was hospitalized with chest pains.

The storms that moved through the state during the afternoon were most severe in Southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod.
