The Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource Center, in cooperation with EMS Magazine, will be presenting the 2009 Bill Shearer International Advanced Life Support/Basic Life Support Competition in Orlando, FL, June 30–July 1, 2009, in conjunction with the 2009 Clinical Conference on Prehospital Emergency Care (ClinCon).

     The competition features three divisions:

The ALS Division is made up of teams of paramedics, RNs and military medics who function in the EMS environment. Physicians are not eligible to compete. Each team is comprised of three ALS providers (one of whom must be a paramedic) who must function in a prehospital setting.

The BLS Division is made up of teams of first responders and EMTs who function in the EMS environment. Paramedics, RNs and physicians are not eligible to compete in the BLS Division. Each team is comprised of three first responders and EMTs who must function in a prehospital setting.

The Paramedic Student Division is made up of teams that must be comprised of students actively enrolled in a paramedic education program. Each team is comprised of three paramedic students. Licensed paramedics, RNs and physicians are not eligible to compete in the Paramedic Student Division.

The Bill Shearer International Advanced Life Support/Basic Life Support Competition provides two rounds of competition for the ALS Division and one round of competition for the BLS and Paramedic Student Divisions.

If you would like information about how your agency can compete, visit the Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource Center's website at www.emlrc.org, or call EMLRC Director John Todaro at 407/281-7396, ext 17.
