EDGARTOWN, MA – In an active shooter incident such as Columbine or Fort Hood, normal safety protocols may be suspended as police officers and other first responders quickly act without waiting for support teams to arrive. Emergency Film Group of Edgartown, MA has produced “Active Shooter: Rapid Response” a DVD-based training resource and reference designed for law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs, and and others who may be first on the scene of a mass shooting. Combining realistic training exercises that simulate mass shootings with footage of actual incidents, “Active Shooter: Rapid Response” portrays actions for the first arriving officer; two and four man teams, perimeter control, proper use of safety equipment, strategies and tactics, including use of deadly force, managing victims, the role of support teams, and terminating the incident. There is also a segment portraying the ‘lone officer scenario.’ Included in the package are a 34-minute DVD with a bonus feature on approach, entry and search tactics and a Resource CD-Rom with PowerPoint, testing, and other materials that an instructor can use or modify as the basis of a customized training seminar.

Technical advisors for “Active Shooter: Rapid Response” include Frank Borelli, a former police officer and currently the Editor-in-Chief of Officer.com, a website dedicated to supporting police officers; Phillip Currance, a member of the US Public Health Service who serves as the Deputy Commander of the Central US National Medical Response Team for WMD; Rick Hetzel, Assistant Special Agent in Charge and the State Assistant Team Commander with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Special Response Team; Mike Hildebrand, Senior Partner and operations security consultant with Hildebrand & Noll Associates; Chris Mailliard, a Tactical Medic with over 15 years in emergency response; August Vernon of the Forsyth County (NC) Office of Emergency Management; and Trent Walker, Critical Incident Planning Officer for the Greensboro Police Department (NC). Filming was done on location in Massachusetts with the help of law enforcement and other response organizations.
