CARROLL COUNTY, Ohio --

A Carroll County woman went into labor on her way to the hospital on Wednesday, and her husband became a hero.

Amy and Jim Albert told NEWS9 they are blessed to have their new addition to the family, Erin Nicole Albert, especially because it wasn't your typical delivery.

"It's amazing," said Jim Albert.

Amy Albert was having painful contractions earlier in the day on Wednesday, so her husband packed up their truck and they left their Carrollton home for the hospital.

But the couple's truck trouble started soon after they left.

"I felt the truck slow down and he said, 'Unbelievable,'" said Amy Albert. "And I'm like 'What?'" "And he's like, 'The truck is filling up with smoke!'"

The Alberts' truck broke down about 45 minutes from the hospital.

"I said, 'I don't know what we're going to do,'" said Amy Albert. "And my water broke just then, as soon as we pulled over. And Jim goes, 'Now I'm nervous!'"

But there was no time for nerves, and Amy Albert, a Carroll County paramedic, was ready.

"We had some towels that we brought just in case," said Jim Albert. "And before you know it, she pushed once and there she was. As soon as she hit my cold hands, she started crying, so I knew everything was good."

Amy Albert's fellow paramedics arrived on scene minutes after the birth and took the new family to Alliance Community Hospital.

The Alberts then called their family to fill them in on the unbelievable delivery.

It's an experience the proud parents will never forget.

"I think her and her daddy will have a nice tight bond from her on out," said Amy Albert. "He delivered her, and I think it was meant to be this way."
