UNITY TOWNSHIP, Pa. --

Police said a 28-year-old Westmoreland County man was killed Thursday morning in Unity Township in a crash on his way to work.

Investigators said Edward J. Mutnansky Jr. took a curve along Latrobe-Crabtree Road too fast and crashed into a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation truck.

Police said Mutnansky was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the PennDOT truck is OK.

EMT officials arriving on scene included Mutnansky's brother, David, who pulled him from the wreckage.

Mick Janosko is the head baseball coach at St. Vincent College, where Mutnansky played ball.

Janosko said Mutnansky's game was as good as his attitude, which kept a smile on his face all the time.

"It's a very humbling experience, and it really makes you think a little bit harder today, to appreciate every day," said Janosko. "Ed was a tremendous competitor."

Mutnansky's graduated from St. Vincent in 2002 and spent two years as a grants and budget assistant at the University of Pittsburgh's Katz Graduate School of Business. He later then landed a job as an accountant in Connellsville.
